Newly enstooled Queen Mother of Abuakwa Manhyia Obaahemaa Afia Tumutuo, has vowed to reintroduce the Akan tradition “Bragro” which seeks to instil chastity in the teenage girl back in her community.
Obaahemaa Tumutuo has now been crowned the Queen mother Abuakwa Manhyia in the Atwima Nwabiagya South district of the Ashanti Region.

Her enstoolment ceremony took place on Tuesday, 23rd April this year after she had undergone the laid down customary procedures according to the Akan tradition.
“Bragro”, a puberty rite performed for the teenage girl according to the customs of the Akan tries to prevent the young girls from engaging in early sexual activities before marriage.
However, this rich African culture has been left out in the society leaving the girl child’s sexual life uncontrolled.
But Obaahemaa Tumutuo has insisted she is going to make sure her teenage girls get the best training and upbringing in her community.

The Queen Mother also revealed to the media that her major concern and mission is to curb the overheated teenage pregnancies in her locality as she has been enstooled onto the throne while she instil “bragro” in them .

Gracing the ceremony which saw almost all her subject and people from nearby town was Otumfuo’s Ankobeahene, Nana Baffuo Kwame Kusi II.

In a speech by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II read by Nana Baffuo Kwame Kusi II, the Asantehene cautioned the queen mother to desist from all manner of irresponsible behaviours that could render her reputation into disrepute.

Nana Ankobeahene further challenged the Queen Mother to exhibit maximum respect to chiefs and elders of the Abuakwa Manhyia Traditional Area.
“Be sober to your Gyaasehene and Nananom, also display a consummative life to all the women in your community and you will reside on the stool for long”. He warned.

“I have crowned you the Queen mother of Abuakwa Manhyia and its stool lands, on behalf of our Lord Otumfuo Osei Tutu II”. Nana Baffuo Kwame Kusi II affirmed.

Obaahemaa Tumutuo has also vowed to assist the venerable and the poor to embark on proper education so as to limit the evaporated rate of illiteracy in her jurisdiction.
