GRA Rejects Auditor-General’s Claim Of GH₵3.26bn Loss
GRA Rejects Auditor-General’s Claim Of GH₵3.26bn Loss
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) disputes the assertion made in the 2021 Auditor General’s report that the nation has lost GH3.26 billion.
The GRA claims that the audit performed by the Audit Service in May 2022 did not take into account the aforementioned sum, which was the Energy Sector Levies.
The reasons why the money was marked as “unaccounted” were explained in a statement that was issued by Florence Asante, Assistant Commissioner, Communication and Public Affairs, GRA.

She continued by saying that in March 2022, the GRA provided the Controller and Accountant General Department (CAGD) with provisional income data for 2021 totaling GH60.69 billion, which included GH3.2 billion in Energy Sector Levies. Excerpts from the statement stated that “in May 2022, the Audit Service conducted an audit of the revenue collected by GRA in 2021 and arrived at a figure of GH57.43 billion,” but added that this figure did not account for the Energy Sector Levies that GRA reports on, such as the Energy Debt Service, Energy Debt Recovery, Power Generation, and Sanitation and Pollution levy. Despite the fact that the numbers were given, she said, “These charges totaling GH3.2 billion were deleted from the Audit report.”
Mrs. Asante emphasized once more that at GRA, no money was lost. Dr. John Kumah, the Deputy Minister of Finance, previously explained that the discrepancies in the data produced by various agencies did not always represent a loss of revenue to the government. The GRA and the Ministry of Finance recorded a total tax collection of GH57.43 billion in its 2021 report to the Auditor General, whereas the Controller and Accountant General Department’s records indicated a total tax revenue of GH60 billion.
As a result, it claimed that GH3.26 billion was missing from the three institutions. The Auditor General gave specifics, noting that CAGD recorded Direct and Indirect taxes totaling GH27.7 billion (GH27,709,806,120) and GH32.9 billion (GH32,979,232,570) in the Government Accounts, respectively. It said that the sum resulted in an overstatement of tax income of GH 3.26 billion as compared to GRA stated tax collection of GH 27.6 billion and GH 29.8 billion for direct and indirect taxes, respectively.

Twitter to charge $20 per month for verification badge
Only a few days after taking over as Twitter’s CEO, Elon Musk is apparently working on some significant improvements.
The Twitter Blue membership and even the verification procedure, which awards verified accounts with a “Blue tick,” are expected to undergo modifications.
According to reports, the Twitter Blue subscription will be connected to it, and Musk also has big price increases planned for the subscriptions.

The new Twitter Blue subscription will cost customers $19.99, according to a report by The Verge. Additionally, Twitter accounts that already have the blue tick will need to abide by this new system and pay for it.
According to the article, verified users will have a total of 90 days to switch to Twitter Blue before they lose their checkmark.
Employees of Twitter have also been told to resign or move quickly with this new membership plan. According to the article, a deadline of November 7 has been set for the staff.
Blue Twitter Subscription
Twitter Blue, a paid monthly opt-in subscription that grants exclusive access to premium services, was introduced last year.
This, according to Twitter, will allow you to personalize your Twitter experience. In the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, the subscription service is now available.
It will be interesting to see how Musk implements both a global rollout and a complete overhaul of the payment system. Twitter Blue can be bought in-app on iOS and Android in the regions that are eligible.
Elon Musk recently revealed screenshots from internal Twitter communications that proved the board of directors had misled to him before the transaction was finalized.
The security chief mentions “fraudulent metrics” being shown in the screen grab. Bots, however, were not mentioned. According to Musk, he will share additional details in the coming days.
