ECG arrests 10 for illegal connection after disconnection

Ten Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) customers in the Ashanti Region have been detained for self-reconnecting after being disconnected.

During a nighttime exercise, the 10 were detained in Abuakwa, Makro, Manhyia, Tanoso, and other communities in the Abuakwa district.

The 10 were detained by the electricity distribution company as part of a special operation to boost revenue mobilization.

The 10, who were involved in unlawful connections in the area, were among 150 customers who were terminated for not paying their bills.

Some of the consumers who were detained paid their debts before being reconnected.

According to Ing Fred Kwabena Bediako, the ECG TaskForce Manager, the exercise is a part of attempts to cut losses and strengthen the business’s push to generate income.

To prevent customers from reconnecting themselves, he said a constant nationwide exercise of this kind would be conducted.

“We had assumed that after the previous incident, individuals would have ceased performing self-reconnections, but stepping outside today has shown that we need to step up this monitoring in order to prevent energy users from performing self-reconnections.”

We don’t enjoy carrying out such tasks since they are exhausting and expensive, but we are compelled by the situation to carry out this exercise, he continued.

The up-and-coming musician, Kelvin Osei Owusu who goes by the stage name Kulli Jay, also expressed his excitement about the deal, promising his best under the new management.

Kulli Jay, the new signee has been churning out a couple of music before he came into contact with Smoke Ice Music/Jayraw Multimedia. Speaking to the CEO of Ice Smoke Music, he promises that their new signee is full of goodies and that Ghana and beyond should expect something awesome.
