UEW to Offer Speaker of Parliament Honorary Doctorate Degree

The Management of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has affirmed its intention to honour the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Michael Oquaye with a doctorate degree for his unwavering contribution towards the remarkable history and politics of Ghana.

According to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Andy Ofori-Birikorang, UEW occasionally honours citizens and international figures who have contributed adeptly to the course of humanity hence, the reason to offer the Third Gentleman of the land an honorary doctorate degree.

Prof. Ofori-Birikorang, on behalf of the University Council and Management, made the statement on Friday, 20th December, 2019, when he led a five-member delegation to pay a courtesy call on the Speaker of Parliament to express the University’s sincere gratitude for honouring its invitation to grace the International Human Rights Day, observed by the Centre for Conflict Resolution, Human Rights and Peace Studies (CHRAPS) of the UEW.

“The Governing Council and Management of the University have dug into the history of the Speaker, sat down to plan and concluded on this initiative. Therefore, on behalf of the Governing Council and Management of the University, we are formally conveying to you that we want to honour you with a doctorate degree because of the role that you played in the history and politics of this country and even in the education of so many of our citizens,” the Pro-Vice-Chancellor said.

Rt. Hon. Prof. Oquaye was overwhelmed by the depth of UEW’s appreciation and thought-provoking honour. He said that “it will be a great joy to have a special occasion like that to come and receive an honorary doctorate degree. It is nice to work for a doctorate degree but it is also nice for one to be bestowed upon you. So, we look forward to the appropriate day and we trust that we will have a very good useful time at a convocation of that nature,” the Speaker of Parliament emphasised.

Among the University Officials present were the Registrar, Surv. Paul Osei-Barima, Esq.; Ag. Head of CHRAPS, Dr. Robert Ghunney; Ag. Head, Department of Human Resource Management, Dr. B. B. B. Bingab; and Head, Department of University Relations Office and Media, Ms. Obaapanin Adu Oforiwaa.

Born Paul Raymond Osemudiame on June 12th, 1995, in the vibrant city of Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria, Big Rain was destined for greatness. His early life was filled with the sweet sounds of jazz, reggae, and gospel music, courtesy of his music-loving parents, who encouraged his passion for music. He spent hours listening to the likes of Fela Kuti, Bob Marley, and Michael Jackson, studying their craft and learning from their legacies.

Since then, he has released five more songs, each one a testament to his creative genius and dedication to his craft. His music is a fusion of Afrobeats, R&B, and pop, with lyrics that speak to the human experience, love, and self-empowerment. With his unique sound and style, Big Rain is poised to take the music industry by storm.

Inspired by the legendary likes of Fela Kuti, Michael Jackson, and Bob Marley, Ray Jay believes that music should be a powerful tool for spreading love and goodwill. With this in mind, he has pioneered a sub-genre under Afrobeats, dubbed “Afrolove,” aimed at sharing love and positivity through his music. Smoke Ice Music and JayRaw Multimedia has announced the signing of a new male singer, Kulli Jay to their record label, Smoke Ice Music/JayRaw Multimedia.

The up-and-coming musician, Kelvin Osei Owusu who goes by the stage name Kulli Jay, also expressed his excitement about the deal, promising his best under the new management.

Kulli Jay, the new signee has been churning out a couple of music before he came into contact with Smoke Ice Music/Jayraw Multimedia. The announcement and signing was posted on the socials of the Label.
