Nine-month-old baby found dead at Asikafoabatem

A nine-month-old baby who had been missing for three days in Asankrangwa in the Western Region’s Wassa Amenfi West Municipality has been discovered dead.

Akua Ago’s body was discovered in what was thought to be a fishpond in Asikafoabatem, a neighborhood in Asankrangwa.

The deceased’s father, Mr. Joseph Ayimberh, corroborated the information and stated that he resided in Bremang with his wife, Rose, and siblings.

He claimed that on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, his wife and their lone child (Akua) traveled to Asankrangwa to shop because it was a market day.

When his wife arrived at Asankrangwa, according to Mr. Ayimberh, she entrusted her daughter to a 13-year-old girl she didn’t know and begged the girl to care for the deceased while she hurried to the market to get some things.

After a short while, she came back and noticed the stranger and her daughter had vanished. She began looking for them, but her search was unsuccessful.

Then, according to Mr. Ayimberh, “my wife went to a radio station to help her find the whereabouts of our daughter and then went to the Asankrangwa Divisional Police Command to make a complaint.”

On Thursday, October 6, 2022, Mr. Abdul Aziz, who had been asked by some individuals to weed a location at Asikafoabatem, saw the deceased lying in a pond while attending nature’s call. He immediately notified the assembly member and the police.

The body was taken to the Asankrangwa Catholic hospital mortuary by the police after they arrived at the scene, examined it, and decided it needed to be preserved.

Dr. Sabina Ansah of the Asankrangwa Catholic hospital examined the deceased but discovered no signs of an assault, according to the information amassed.

She was later laid to rest when the authorities gave the family access to the remains.
