Brand Deficiency Is Rendering Camidoh’s ‘Sugarcane’ Numb As Against ‘Down Flat’ And The Novel ‘KTT’

Published

Fresh Afrobeat star, Camidoh under the management of George Britton seems to be doing very well in music nowadays but for his brand, he would have been rubbing heads with the likes of Black Sherif, Kelvin Boy, Mr. Drew, Kofi Jamar, and a few other greats of the new school.

What is brand in music? As, spinup.com puts it, “It’s the concrete reflection of an artiste’s overall message, identity, personality, style, values, beliefs, ambitions, represented in his or her music”. Simply put, branding in music is everything that helps people identify and experience your uniqueness in music. It is no wonder that Camidoh is steadily gaining grounds with his lovely songs in the music scene but it is rather absurd that most people cannot identify his brand with his songs.

This case is not the first to have happened to a Ghanaian artiste. The likes of Bless of ‘Chocho Mu Cho’ fame, Afedzi Perry of ‘Ahaban’ fame, Eduwodji of ‘Yenko Nkoaa’ and several others had hit songs but could not create a brand to move along with their hit songs. This in turn went on to worry their music journey.

Camidoh‘s ‘Sugarcane’ which is so far his biggest song of his career so far is doing numbers everywhere. In fact, it could be cited in any schematic listing  of the best five songs in the country currently. What is worrisome is the fact that it is not in pari passu with the ‘Camidoh’ brand as a music artiste. The likes of Kelvin Boy‘s ‘Down Flat’ and Black Sherif‘s ‘KTT’ is aligned with their brands appropriately. This in effect is propelling the latter’s songs to skyrocket as compared to Camidoh‘s.

It is therefore always a necessity as an artiste to pay cynical attention to one’s brand in the process of greatness so as to eat the fruit of one’s labour.

NB: This article is in no way a libel to downplay the hard work of any artiste or label but it is just my two cents on the issue of branding in music in Ghana.

A shocking revelation has sent shockwaves through Ghana’s music industry, as dancehall icon Shatta Wale has come forward to dispute a claim made by legendary musician King Ayisoba. The controversy surrounds the circumstances under which Shatta Wale, then known as Bandana, met the late Terry Bonchaka, a Ghanaian music legend.

Terry Bonchaka’s legacy continues to inspire and influence a new generation of Ghanaian musicians. His impact on the music scene was immense, and his friendships with emerging artists like Shatta Wale, King Ayisoba, and Kay Smooth are well-documented. However, a recent interview with King Ayisoba on Hammer Time has sparked a heated debate about how the three met.

In the interview, King Ayisoba made the astonishing claim that he and another artist, Biblicman, were responsible for introducing Shatta Wale to Terry Bonchaka. This assertion has been met with skepticism by many, and Shatta Wale has now come forward to set the record straight.

In a separate interview on “Time With Hammer”, Shatta Wale provided a detailed account of how he met Terry Bonchaka. Contrary to King Ayisoba’s claim, Shatta Wale revealed that it was Terry who rather introduced himself and Ayisoba to each other. This testimony is corroborated by Kay Smooth himself, who shared his version of events in a recent video.

In the video, Kay Smooth explained that he was friends with Terry Bonchaka and attended school with Shatta Wale. When Shatta Wale expressed his admiration for Terry’s style and requested an introduction, Kay Smooth facilitated the meeting. This account provides the final piece of the puzzle, confirming that King Ayisoba’s claim was indeed false.

The controversy surrounding King Ayisoba’s claim has sparked a lively debate about the importance of honesty and integrity in the music industry. Shatta Wale’s response and Kay Smooth’s corroborating account have provided clarity on the circumstances surrounding their meeting with Terry Bonchaka.

As the music community continues to evolve, it is essential that we prioritize truth and accuracy in our narratives.
