Revered Artiste, Visaka Outdoors “Blue Luna”

Published

on

Visaka was born in London to parents of Sri Lankan and Gambian heritage. She lived in Gambia until the age of 4 before
returning to the UK, where she has lived ever since. With the percussive sounds of West Africa blended with the East and
everything in between, her creative approach is a cocktail of cultural influences.

At 19, she was scouted by A&R at 2Tone Records and released a single under the label that was played on the BBC Asian
Network. Latterly, she curated an EP with them, but even at that age, she knew that creative control was something that was important to her, and so she walked away from the opportunity due to creative differences.

Having amassed a lot of experience
under their wings, she went off to find her own network of producers and artists with whom she felt a true synergy.
To date, she has worked with numerous producers (local and international), including Vice Vic, The Royal Sounds, and Cin, to name a few.

As a performer, she has graced the stages of T On The Green at Pavilion Bruce Castle Park, City Splash, and most
recently the Hackney Reggae Festival this past summer.

Her debut EP, released on the 9th of September, is nuanced with ancestral influence and infused with her love for hip-hop, reggae, and jazz. A rebel at heart, she cites influences such as Bob Marley, Amy Winehouse, and Kendrick Lamar and has a deep reverence and admiration for their bravery in their art form, something she strives to have with hers.

She is set to reinvent the soundscape and push the boundaries of the established formula of a young independent artist. Her message is infused with deep roots, raw expression, and spiritual empowerment.

The dancehall music terrain in Ghana has experienced growth and penetration in the music market, due to the influx of talented dancehall musicians over the years. This has greatly contributed to the development of the Ghanaian music industry.

Introducing Chobl3 M3ka, the rising star of Reggae Dancehall with a sound that hits hard and stays true to the roots. In a recent interview on Metro TV, monitored by Kobby Loam, Jamaican musician Chobl3 M3ka engaged in a vital conversation about dancehall music
in Ghana. During the discussion, he shared his thoughts on the current state of dancehall music in Ghana, acknowledging artistes such as Jupitar, Shatta Wale, and Stonebwoy as musicians he admires. However, he also expressed his view that these Ghanaian musicians often lack an organic command and diction of the patwa language in their music composition. He noted that they fail to replicate the authenticity of the dancehall genre due to the genre’s deeply rooted cultural connections.

His latest release, Pot Of Trouble EP is a high energy collection of tracks blending infectious rhythms, sharp lyricism, and a fearless exploration of life’s trials and triumphs.
