Visaka was born in London to parents of Sri Lankan and Gambian heritage. She lived in Gambia until the age of 4 before
returning to the UK, where she has lived ever since. With the percussive sounds of West Africa blended with the East and
everything in between, her creative approach is a cocktail of cultural influences.
At 19, she was scouted by A&R at 2Tone Records and released a single under the label that was played on the BBC Asian
Network. Latterly, she curated an EP with them, but even at that age, she knew that creative control was something that was important to her, and so she walked away from the opportunity due to creative differences.
Having amassed a lot of experience
under their wings, she went off to find her own network of producers and artists with whom she felt a true synergy.
To date, she has worked with numerous producers (local and international), including Vice Vic, The Royal Sounds, and Cin, to name a few.
As a performer, she has graced the stages of T On The Green at Pavilion Bruce Castle Park, City Splash, and most
recently the Hackney Reggae Festival this past summer.
Her debut EP, released on the 9th of September, is nuanced with ancestral influence and infused with her love for hip-hop, reggae, and jazz. A rebel at heart, she cites influences such as Bob Marley, Amy Winehouse, and Kendrick Lamar and has a deep reverence and admiration for their bravery in their art form, something she strives to have with hers.
She is set to reinvent the soundscape and push the boundaries of the established formula of a young independent artist. Her message is infused with deep roots, raw expression, and spiritual empowerment.
