LeBron James becomes highest-paid NBA player in history
LeBron James, a prominent player for the Los Angeles Lakers, has agreed to a two-year, $97.1 million contract extension until the 2024–2025 campaign.
Rich Paul, CEO of Klutch Sports, claims that James is now the highest-paid player in NBA history thanks to this league-maximum contract. His new contract includes a player option that would enable him to remain with the Lakers after turning 40 in December 2024.
The 37-year-old James’ most recent deal with the Lakers, who signed the four-time NBA MVP and four-time league champion in July 2018, is approaching its final year. The 18-time All-Star will receive $46.7 million this season thanks to the new contract.

In the course of the upcoming season, assuming no injuries, James will likely surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer. If James and Anthony Davis are able to recover in good condition from an injury-plagued 2021–22 season that concluded without a playoff berth, James and the Lakers still aim to be in the running for another championship.
James now has the chance to help the Lakers establish themselves as true legends. During the Covid-19 pandemic-affected season of 2019–20, he notably guided the Los Angeles team to NBA Championship triumph, but the subsequent two seasons have been unsuccessful.
James was a teammate of former NBA forward and 2016 NBA Champion Richard Jefferson when they both played for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Jefferson thinks James needs to accomplish more to be regarded as a legend while wearing the purple and gold of the Lakers.
LeBron James hasn’t accomplished enough as a Laker, according to Jefferson, to be included on that list. This is Bron’s fourth season, right? He’s been there now, you know. They have spent four seasons there. They have missed the postseason for the past two years. They were eliminated in the first round once. They also won a title one year.
If James is successful in becoming one of the Lakers’ greatest players, he will join the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant, Magic Johnson, Jerry West and Wilt Chamberlain.
