Hilla Limann Technical University defaults in employees pension contributions
Some casual employees of the Hilla Limann Technical University in Wa have not received the required Tier One and Tier Two pension payments from the university’s management for the past 12 months.
The management failed to provide nine employees’ combined pension payments totaling GH7,312.68 to pension fund managers by the deadline, according to the Auditor General’s Report on the public accounts of technical institutions and polytechnics for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2019.
The investigation states that the violation occurred when the university’s acting director of finance neglected to remove employees’ 5.5% payments from their pay or salary, giving her the justification to withhold the employer’s 13% contribution on their behalf.

The 2019 Auditor General’s Report on some public institutions, including technical universities and polytechnics, in the Northern, Upper West, Upper East, Savannah, and North East regions was the subject of a weeklong public hearing by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament in Tamale last Monday.

Dr. James Klutse Avedze, the committee’s chairman, ordered management of the university to make necessary arrangements to pay the contributions due the employees within a week or risk the relevant sanction.
He said, “We are giving you a week to remit the affected persons’ contributions owing them or face sanctions.”
Karim Kuuri, the university’s director of finance, responded to the committee’s concern by stating that the university has previously taken action to pay all outstanding employee pension contribution arrears.
The purpose of the seven-day public hearing is to examine the 2019 audited accounts of tertiary and second-cycle institutions as well as metropolitan, municipal, and district legislatures.
