Details of the 8 persons who have just been killed by Coronavirus in Ghana

Ghana’s Coronavirus death toll has increased from 58 to 66 following the demise of 8 patients.

This was contained in an update by the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on Wednesday, June 17, 2020. According to the GHS, the update is as of June 15.

Out of the 8 deaths, 6 came from the Ashanti region while 2 were recorded in the Greater Accra region. 3 were females, with the remaining 5 being males.

Whereas 5 had underlining health conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and sickle cell, 3 persons, below the ages of 40 had no co-morbidities.

Meanwhile, the country has recorded 397 new infections. The case count now stands at 12,590. The number of recoveries is 4,410, leaving the country with 8,114 active cases.

According to the GHS data, 13 patients are in severe conditions while 4 are critically ill.

The latest update comes barely a day after GHS announced the confirmation of 229 new cases.

Pressure group, OccupyGhana, a few days ago raised concern about the number of deaths as it argued that the figures could have been massaged.

The group noted in a statement issued that “There is cause to suspect that the death numbers are being massaged” while stressing that some persons who were discharged have tested positive again.

It also argued that Ghana is likely to lose the ‘strength in racing with the COVID-19 virus’ following the reopening of schools.

“If we are not careful, these schools could turn into hotspots for disease transmission and the students could become super-spreaders.”

“Hospitals are getting overwhelmed with spillovers of designated areas for suspected and confirmed cases into emergency rooms and wards otherwise not assigned.

“[There] is a desperate attempt to shorten hospital stay and increase the availability of bed space by discharging patients before the post-treatment test results.

“The unfortunate occurrence, which has led to some being discharged with their repeat tests coming back positive after their discharge. This is disheartening and should not be allowed as we seek to fight this pandemic with professionalism and integrity” the pressure group stated.

DEBUT ALBUM: Miriam Mandipira & The Soul Family

DEBUT ALBUM by Miriam Mandipira & The Soul Family!
You’ve never heard a voice like Miriam Mandipira’s. Undeservedly, she doesn’t take credit for the power or presence she delivers. For Miriam, music is much more than just notes and words. It’s
magic. And faith. You can experience it LIVE and on the album, which is set to be released on September 1st.

She has been singing for as long as she can remember, growing up with her ears glued to the radio.

From the moment her school teacher asked her to sing in class, the rest has been history. From Africa to Denmark, from Book Café in Harare to Mojo Blues Bar and the big concert halls. From
Danish Radio Big Band to the Royal Theater. Music is music, and Miriam is the music.

“But it’s not about me when I sing. I’m just the instrument, and when I’m on stage with my band, I sing from a place that’s not about rules and technique but about emotions,” says the singer, who is
seriously trying her hand at songwriting – together with her Soul Family on the album “Ndiwe”, which means ‘you are the chosen one of my heart.’ The overall message is impossible to ignore
Love.

“Call me a soul singer, call me a jazz singer. I don’t care. Good music is good music, and I love interpreting other people’s songs and being inspired. At the same time, I think it’s great to try my
hand at creating and writing the songs myself – and with my friends in the Soul Family, I have found my place. They are my family, and the curiosity and respect we share are fantastic.”

You can experience that up close when Miriam & The Soul Family take the stage. The enthusiasm for music and communication is impossible to ignore and hear.

“I love to maintain the feeling of being a child. It’s an excitement and curiosity that keeps me going, and that’s why I’m so excited about every single concert – no matter how small or large it is.

Otherwise, I would never do it. This is not just a casual thing. This is a life, and everything means something,” says Miriam, who began her years in Denmark by jamming at Mojo Blues Bar, building a network.

Enjoy
