NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC CONGRESS SUHUM CONSTITUENCY – PRESS RELEASE

Published

on

Safe drinking water and Sanitation are among the basic priority of a government in any country but that is not what the residents living in Abenabu No 2 in the Suhum Municipality are witnessing.

We have noticed with shock that the residents staying in Abenabu No2 drink residues from the Suhum Government Mortuary that drains into the stream that serves as the only source of water for the community. Left with no option, members of the community use the contaminated water from the stream for all household activity which endangers their health. We find it difficult to comprehend as to why government is unwilling to provide portable water or bore holes for a community of 3500 population yet is quick to spend millions of dollars to import condoms into the country.

We find it very worrying that, the government is not equipping the hospital with the necessary infrastructure to tackle this menace.

By this release, we are reminding the government on its commitment in attaining the UN Sustainable Development Goals thus providing safe and clean water for both rural and urban communities in Ghana. We are calling on the NPP government to use part of the I million dollars per constituency that they promised the people in Suhum to at least provide boreholes for residents living in Abenabu No2 to save them from this inhuman condition they find themselves.

As a matter of urgency, we are advising the MCE (Hon. Margaret Darko) of Suhum not to be an arm-chair official but to visit the residents living in Abenabu No 2 to ascertain the challenges they are facing and address it immediately. Hon. Margaret Darko (Suhum MCE) must up her game, initiate & execute her own projects and refrain from claiming NDC projects to be hers.

We are also reminding the MP for Suhum constituency (Honourable Opare Ansah) to use his long serving experience, resources and lobbying skills to help provide portable drinking water for Abenabu No2 people instead of organizing Easter Fufuo Party for his party apparatchiks. Sanitation challenges facing the good people of suhum than to turn a blind eye to them as he has always being doing. The good people of Abenabu No2 and suhum constituency deserve better.

We wish to assure the good people of Abenabu No2 and the entire people living in the Suhum Municipality that we will continue to mount pressure on this Super Incompetent government to provide basic needs for the people.

Thank you.
