New police officers can swim and drive – IGP

New police officers can swim and drive – IGP

As a result of a reassessment of the police training program to improve students’ ability to respond to current criminal trends, all new officers who graduate from the police training school can now swim and drive.

This information was provided by Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Inspector-General of Police, during a public lecture on policing at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.

The IGP claims that the police training school program has been modified to be more useful and efficient.

The training school program has been modified to now consist of 75% practical content and 25% theoretical content. As part of their training, all brand-new police officers are now taught how to drive and swim, enabling them to catch criminals wherever they are. If the bad guys choose to swim, the officers will meet them. We are taking all necessary measures to ensure that we protect lives and property.”

The IGP also made notice of the Police’s intention to set up a virtual police station so that citizens could lodge complaints online.

“We anticipate the time when we will have a virtual police station. where you are not required to appear at the police station. You only need to submit your complaint online, and we’ll send you all the details. Additionally, we are able to virtually invite the suspect who processes data.

“And we assess and believe that it is something we can practically do rather than show up at the police station and be left alone, among other things. We therefore have a great deal of work to do, but internally, you can send messages to every police officer across the country instantly,” the police chief said.

Dr. Dampare continued, “We distribute documents electronically from headquarters to regional level so that we do not need to find personnel to come pick it up and do that.
